About The Role
The National Security business in Gloucester is growing, with increasing opportunities to work with a range of National Security clients to provide solutions that have a real impact. Be part of a growing team that delivers for its clients and gives back to the community through local outreach activities to build tech and cyber skills in the region. We are looking for additional Python Software Engineers following continuous growth and success in the UK Government sector.
What You Could Be Doing For Us
 * Designing, coding, testing, correcting and documenting simple programs, and assisting in the implementation of software that forms part of a properly engineered information or communications system
 * Providing accurate estimates of development effort needed to design, code and test software from given specifications
 * Focusing on Data Processing
 * Working on AWS Cloud infrastructure
 * Opportunity to mentor junior level developers, providing oversight where applicable
 * Analyzing code defects and producing timely code fixes
What background are we looking for?
 * Advanced Python: OOP, async (asyncio), pythonic/idiomatic code, design patterns.
 * Environment management: virtualenv, pip, Poetry/uv; reproducible builds.
 * Testing: pytest, unittest.mock, BDD (behave), JSON/jsonschema.
 * Concurrency & parallelism: threading, multiprocessing, async I/O.
 * Algorithms, data structures, profiling & optimisation.
 * Linux/UNIX fluency; POSIX APIs, sockets, binary parsing.
 * Experience interfacing with C/C++ APIs; basic C++ concepts.
 * Strong Git skills (Git Flow), CI/CD pipelines, code quality tools.
 * Atlassian Tools/GitHub familiarity.
 * High-assurance mindset; awareness of risk in secure coding.
