Overview
This job offers an opportunity to develop as a specialist in infection prevention and control (IPC) for the safety of patients, staff and service users across the Provide services. The post holder will be part of the Infection Prevention and Control team within the Quality and Safety directorate, supporting a comprehensive IPC service for health and adult social care services. The role involves promoting best practice through audit programmes, surveillance, education and training, and acting as an IPC role model with high visibility across services to ensure compliance with policy, procedures and requirements under the Health and Social Care Act 2025 and CQC Outcome 8 (safe care and treatment) and cleanliness and infection control.
Responsibilities
* Develop specialist knowledge of Infection Prevention to support and improve the management and quality of practice by delivering national directives and developing local quality, patient safety and safe working systems.
* Be an effective communicator, advising on IPC matters with all grades of staff and developing IPC education and training materials to support delivery of IPC education and training.
* Use relevant IT equipment and software to develop audit tools and undertake audit and surveillance to identify risks to IPC safety.
* Visit and work across a variety of settings and services to advise on IPC and ensure evidence‑based practice meets the needs of different service user groups; clarify and explain microbiological results and implications for patient or service user management where required.
* Contribute to and develop IPC guidance and education resources and support the link practitioner Infection Prevention and Control programme.
