Responsibilities
Oversee the maintenance delivery on an acute hospital setting, managing both internal and external labour, and ensuring the building fabric is maintained.
Collaborate with senior team to deliver a client-driven, cost-effective and efficient Facilities Management Service at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
Deliver a safe, happy and compliant hospital environment to provide the best possible patient experience.
Manage fabric-related maintenance budgets, covering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive works, minor works, and emergency repairs.
Oversee and manage external contractors delivering fabric maintenance and minor works projects, ensuring value for money and compliance with statutory obligations (including HTMs) and service level agreements.
Manage a team of fabric technicians and the grounds team, monitor performance, ensure training and development, and cover other managers during leave.
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements such as fire safety, legionella risk management, infection prevention, and accessibility.
Provide technical input to capital schemes and refurbishments, ensuring integration of long-term maintainability and operational suitability.
Act as a key stakeholder in minor capital or lifecycle replacement projects affecting the fabric and grounds of the estate.
Apply analytical, practical and forward-thinking problem solving to support safe and uninterrupted patient care, balancing operational demands, budget constraints, statutory compliance and workforce capacity.
Candidates must have evidence of the right to work in the UK.
Qualifications
* Recognised Level 3 or higher qualification in a building, construction or fabric discipline (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or above, BTEC, HNC/HND).
* IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification, or willingness to attain within 6 months.
* Evidence of ongoing CPD relevant to the built environment or healthcare estates.
Desirable Qualifications
* NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate.
* Fire door inspection certification or other fire safety-related qualifications.
* Qualifications in project or contractor management (e.g., PRINCE2, ILM Level 3/5).
Experience
* Significant firsthand experience in building fabric maintenance in a complex environment, ideally healthcare.
* Proven experience managing multi-skilled maintenance teams and external contractors.
* Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply statutory requirements and technical guidance.
* Experience planning and delivering PPM schedules, managing reactive works and overseeing minor works projects.
* Budget awareness and understanding of delivering services within financial constraints.
Desirable Experience
* Experience working in a live clinical or hospital environment.
* Familiarity with CAFM systems for maintenance management and reporting (e.g., Maximo, Concept).
* Authorised Person (AP) position previously held or willingness to take on roles.
