We havean exciting opportunity for a Specialist Physiotherapist to join the Care ofElderly team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will be responsible forproviding a high standard of assessment, advice, treatment, and evaluation topatients referred to the acute inpatient physiotherapy service, including thosewith complex physical and psychological conditions. You will support patientsacross elderly wards as well as the specialist hip fracture ward. You willbuild on your previous experience to further develop your clinical andmanagerial skills, working as an autonomous professional in line with theChartered Society of Physiotherapy rules of professional conduct and standards,as well as the Health Professions Council regulations.


Main duties of the job

As aSpecialist Physiotherapist, you will manage your own caseload independently andensure seamless continuity of physiotherapy care during patient transfers ordischarge. You will supervise and support junior physiotherapy staff andassistants, as well as contribute to the clinical education of physiotherapystudents on placement. You will participate in service improvement initiatives,audits, research projects, and seven-day working as required. Additionally, youwill maintain professional registration, adhere to Trust and professional bodypolicies, contribute to departmental training and education sessions, andassist the Specialty Team Lead in coordinating and enhancing physiotherapyservices, while advocating for patient safety and excellent care.

Job responsibilities

* To conduct comprehensive assessments and use advanced clinical reasoningto formulate diagnoses, prognoses, and personalised treatment goals forpatients with complex conditions.
* To select, implement, and adapt specialised physiotherapy interventions,including manual techniques, therapeutic handling, electrotherapy, exerciseprogrammes, and use of appliances, ensuring patient safety at all times.
* To maintain accurate, timely, and professional patient records and reportsin line with HPC and CSP regulations, reflecting assessment, treatment, andprogress.
* To be able to correctly identify inappropriate referrals to Physiotherapyand
* have the confidence to refer on or back as required.
* To manage and prioritise a challenging caseload independently, includingproviding emergency assessment and treatment for critically ill inpatients andparticipating in on-call, weekend, and 7-day service duties.
* To contribute to departmental projects and patient education initiatives,supporting improvements in care delivery and enhancing patient experience(e.g., creating informative resources or supporting training activities).


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy.
* Experience in elderly, orthopaedic, or respiratory care.
* HCPC registration or UK-recognised accreditation.
* Proficient in Moving & Handling, BLS, and SystemOne.
* Evidence of CPD and teaching experience.
