We work across Wales and in the West Midlands are now looking for a passionate and organised individual to join our expanding training team as a Training Officer. We’re looking for someone who:
Has substantial experience of working within social care and is motivated to make a meaningful, long‑term difference to the lives and futures of children and young people.
Has proven experience in planning, delivering, and evaluating high‑quality training or learning programmes.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of trauma, including the specific impact of childhood trauma and care experience on development, behaviour, and wellbeing.
Is passionate about equipping and supporting professionals to provide safe, relational and trauma‑informed care that improves outcomes for children.
Communicates with confidence and clarity, building positive, respectful relationships with foster carers, practitioners, and partner agencies.
Is highly organised, detail‑focused and able to manage multiple priorities.
Works collaboratively as part of a wider team but is equally confident using their own initiative to problem‑solve.
Is adaptable, creative, reflective, and committed to their own continuous learning and professional development.
Has strong IT skills and is confident using digital platforms for training delivery, coordination and communication.

Based at: Home based, with a willingness to drive across the South Wales area and the Midlands
Reports to: Learning and Development Manager
Job Type: Full time and part time hours available.
Salary: From £30,000 to £35,600 (pro rata if part time), depending on experience

Main Purpose of the Role
To design, coordinate and deliver high‑quality training programmes that promote trauma‑informed practice, safeguarding excellence, and professional development for those working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
To support learners to develop practical skills, deepen reflective practice and achieve meaningful professional growth, ensuring they feel confident and equipped in their roles.
To monitor, evaluate and continuously improve the effectiveness of training, ensuring all programmes remain evidence‑based, relevant and responsive to emerging needs across the sector.
Responsibilities and Duties
Role Specific
Plan, coordinate and deliver a diverse range of training programmes, workshops and learning events that meet identified needs across the children’s workforce and wider sectors.
Use a blended learning approach, incorporating in‑person delivery, virtual training, e‑learning and reflective group-based sessions.
Ensure all training content is accurate, current, and aligned with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and evidence‑based best practice.
Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with learners, partner organisations, commissioners and external stakeholders to support high‑quality learning experiences.
Use established quality assurance systems to gather feedback, monitor outcomes and drive continuous improvement in training delivery.
Identify and escalate any safeguarding or professional concerns observed during training to the Learning and Development Manager or the appropriate safeguarding lead, in line with organisational procedures.
Provide flexible support to the Learning and Development Manager and wider organisation, undertaking additional duties where required to meet operational needs.
Work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends, to meet training delivery and organisational requirements.
Actively contribute to Heard LEARNING’s commitment to amplifying the voices of children, young people and families, ensuring their lived experience shapes and informs training content and practice.
General
Attend monthly supervision with the Learning and Development Manager to support performance, professional growth and quality assurance.
Work in accordance with Heard LEARNING’s policies and procedures and actively contribute to fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, best practice, research and professional standards relating to safeguarding, trauma and effective learning delivery.
Engage in ongoing professional development, participating proactively in learning and training opportunities.
Growing the Organisation
Act as a positive and professional ambassador for Heard LEARNING in all external engagement, including with local authorities, partner agencies and sector professionals.
Contribute to promotional, marketing and awareness‑raising activities as required to support the organisation’s growth and visibility.
Represent the organisation at relevant events, conferences and forums, promoting our values, training offer and trauma‑informed approach.
Support internal and external quality assurance activities, helping to maintain high standards and drive continuous improvement.
