Your new role
As Management Accountant, you will play a key role within the Management Accounting team, acting as a trusted finance business partner to assigned services. Reporting to the Management Accountancy Team Leader, you will provide high‑quality financial analysis, advice and reporting to support effective budget management, service improvement and change initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include supporting services with budget setting, forecasting and monitoring, investigating and explaining variances, and ensuring the achievement of approved savings. You will contribute to business cases, performance reporting, medium‑ and long‑term financial planning, and the preparation of service final accounts. The role also has a strong statutory focus, including thepletion of statutory and other financial returns and supporting the production of the annual accounts in collaboration with corporate finance colleagues. You will provide direction and support to a small team and engage regularly with senior managers, auditors and external stakeholders.
What you'll need to succeed
You must be a professionally qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA) with proven experience in a similar management accounting or financial environment. A strong understanding of accounting standards, legislative requirements and financialernance is essential, along with the ability to remain up to date with technical developments.
You will bring excellentmunication skills, enabling you to explainplex financial information clearly to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders. Strong analytical capability, high attention to detail, and advanced spreadsheet skills are required, alongside experience of working with financial ledger systems. You will be well organised, adaptable andfortable working to tight deadlines withpeting priorities, while demonstrating leadership capability, initiative and amitment to continuous improvement. Experience within a public sector or local authority environment.
