Band 5 Electrical TeamSupervisor
JOBPURPOSE:
To be responsible forthe supervision management and allocation of amultidisciplined
workforce and resources undertaking workassociated with all engineering plant building
fabric andequipment to the estate within the Trusts Establishments. Providetechnical
support to estates staff and contractors onissues that are complex and nonroutine.Follow
departmental and Trusts operating policies andprocedures guided by building and H &S
regulations when undertaking this role and works closelywith the Estates Officer but also
independently withoutregular supervision.
FREEDOM TOACT:
Post holder is required tobe accountable for their own actions and those of others touse
own initiative and act independently with in DCHpolicy and guidance. To supervise decide
the best methodto achieve the level of service response appropriately whilstremaining in
communication with the appointed andresponsible persons.
1.DIMENSIONS:
The post is based inthe Estates Department. Work undertaken will cover the DorsetCounty
Hospital NHS Foundation Trust site in its entiretyplus off site locations. All team members
are required towork unsupervised within departmental standard operating proceduresand to
prioritise their workschedule.

and departments.
* Negotiating anduse of persuasive skills will be required to gain cooperationwith
maintenance staff gain access within wards anddepartments and explains
technical issues to nontechnicalstaff.
* Forms of communication used will beverbal and written work returns record of
workdone.
* The Post holder analyses the jobs thatare allocated comparing a range of
technical options andevaluates the best solution to the problempresented.
3. KEYRESULT AREAS:
The post holderwill have responsibility for providing a technical engineeringadvice and
support for the maintenance of equipment fabricand utility services for the trust. Supervises
/ managesdirect labour force and contractors togetherwith:

* To assistpatients during incidentalcontact.

* Toimplement new and revised policies and changes in estates servicesand where
appropriate review estatespolicies.
Responsibilityfor Financial and PhysicalResources:
* To be anauthorised signatory for payments to monitor project budgetsassociated with the
repair and maintenance of physicalassets.
Responsibilityfor InformationResources:
* To be ableto enter data associated with stores maintenance and to processjob
requests via the Estates electronic request system. Toanalyse these using technical
knowledge to update recordsincluding creating own spreadsheets to his / her areaof
work and to enterdata.

* Toundertake surveys or audits as necessary to your ownwork

* To accuratelyuse highly developed physical skills in the use of fine toolsmaterials
andequipment.

* Taking accountof H & S and current legislation undertake fault diagnosisinterprets
technical information formulates technicalsolutions to improve equipment
performance and to analysesuitability of equipment together withinterpret
operationalmanuals.
Planning& OrganisationalSkills:
* To planprioritise and adjust a number of complex activities or programmesliaising
with user contractors and specialist agenciestogether with adjustment ofstaffing
levels.
AdditionalKey Result Areas:
* Todirectly supervise the multidisciplined direct labour forceincluding monitoring
timekeeping anddiscipline.
* To negotiate with departments foraccess to allow repairs to be undertakenexplaining
technical issues to non technicalstaff.
* To manage and plan access to departmentsfor maintenance contractors ensure that
H & Sprocedures are documented keys and permitsissued.
* Provide quotations to other departmentsbased on time and material costs.
* To planmaintenance activities including staff rotas and overtime workssource
supplies using technical knowledge of electricalmechanical and building materials
andprocesses.
* To assist Estates Officer in themaintenance of stock and supplies for theEstates
Department.
* To collect collateand assimilate technical information to support thedepartments
governance records of maintenanceactivities.
* To be able to prioritise urgent andnonurgent repairs using knowledge of electrical
mechanicaland building systems.
* To monitor the completionof time sheets and job dockets including reportingany
performance issues to the Estates Officer. Toundertake return to work interviews
following staffabsences due to sickness.
* To ensure that safetyprocedures are observed in the use of PlantEquipment
Materials and Working Procedures and ensure thata safe working environment is
maintained at all times inaccordance with Health & SafetyRegulation.
* To assist with induction trainingof new staff and to train new and existing staff inthe
application of new equipment andprocedures.
* To work outside his/her trade inthe event of an emergency or as directed by the
EstatesOfficer/Head of Estates.
* To be able to driveand hold a clean driving license.
* To take partin an emergency oncall rota.
* Any other dutiesas delegated by the Estates Officer relevant to thepost/department.
* To participate in appropriatetraining as required by this position and determinedby
the Estates ManagementStaff.
4. ENVIRONMENTANDEFFORT:
PhysicalEffort:
* Frequentlyrequired to exert moderate physical effort for short periods (up to20
minutes) within eachshift.
* Frequent use of ladders and working atheight.
* Required to access duct work andundertake tasks with spacerestriction.
* Required to lift and move heavyspecialised equipment and materials.
* Highlydeveloped physical skills required for manipulation of fine toolsand equipment.
* Highly developed physical skillsrequired for manipulation of fine tools andequipment.
MentalEffort:
* Frequentconcentration required when fault finding or reviewing repairrequests.

* Ability to deal with severalevents occurring at the sametime.
* Interruptions for emergencies. Workpattern that isunpredictable.
EmotionalEffort:
* Occasional(less than once a week) exposure to emotional circumstances bycontact
withpatients.
WorkingConditions:
Occasional exposure tounpleasant working conditions dirt dust noiseheat
humidity height confined spaces and inclementweather.
