Job Title: Community Events Manager (Part-Time)
Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Hours: Part-time 20 hours per week worked over a minimum of 4 days
Contract: 12-month fixed term (with potential to extend, subject to funding)
Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum pro rata depending on experience
Purpose of the Role
Are you a natural organiser with a passion for bringing people together and creating events that make a difference? We're looking for a proactive, hands-on Events Manager to design and deliver a growing programme of events and training that strengthens, celebrates, and connects the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a vibrant events portfolio – from community workshops to major conferences – and help shape an offer that will raise the profile of local organisations, build skills and networks, and create lasting impact.
Key Responsibilities
Event Planning and Delivery
• Develop and maintain an annual calendar of events and training in collaboration with colleagues and partners.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver high-quality events (online, in-person and hybrid) including workshops, conferences, training sessions, and forums.
• Manage logistics including budgeting, venues, suppliers, technology, accessibility, and materials.
• Support the development of marketing and communications for each event, including promotion, registration management, and post-event follow-up.
• Take a practical, on-the-ground approach to event promotion and delivery – including attending site visits, completing risk assessments, supporting venue setup and takedown, and engaging directly with the community (e.g. distributing flyers, meeting local partners, troubleshooting on the day). Collaborative Working
• Work closely with programme leads and occasionally, external partners to align events with organisational priorities and local sector needs.
• Build relationships with trainers, speakers, facilitators, and stakeholders to enhance the quality and reach of events.
• Ensure all events are inclusive, accessible, and representative of the communities we serve. The ability to work on tight budgets, within a small team, to produce inspiration and innovative events are essential.
Income Generation and Support
• Proactively seek and secure in-kind support such as free venues, refreshments, and volunteer contributions.
• Develop a sponsorship offer for relevant events and secure funding or contributions from partners.
• Track and report on cost savings and income generated through external support.
Monitoring and Evaluation
• Gather and analyse participant and staff feedback and event impact data.
• Provide reports to senior management and board on event performance, including attendance, reach, satisfaction, and value for money.
• Contribute to funding reports or evaluation work as required.
Person Specification
Essential
Proven experience planning and delivering community events or training.
Strong organisational and project management skills.
Confident communicator and relationship builder.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and social impact.
Desirable
Experience working in or with the VCFSE sector.
Knowledge of accessible, inclusive and budget-conscious event design.
Experience securing sponsorship or in-kind support.
Experience using event platforms (e.g. Eventbrite, Zoom, MS Teams).
Familiarity with community development or capacity-building work.
