The Financial Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining the financial health and efficiency of SWFRS, supporting daily operations and strategic objectives.
This position involves traditional Capital and Financial Accounting, Treasury responsibilities, and specialised duties related to financial, banking, and payment systems.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Capital Accountancy
2. Developing and maintaining capital investment plans, identifying funding sources, and prioritising projects.
3. Preparing and managing the annual capital budget, including cost forecasts, schedules, and stakeholder coordination.
4. Monitoring capital project implementation, ensuring budget adherence, and providing regular updates for decision-making.
5. Monitoring budget performance and preparing variance analysis reports for the Board.
1. Financial Accounting
2. Supporting the closure of accounts and preparing statutory financial statements.
3. Ensuring compliance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS), regulations, and CIPFA codes.
4. Coordinating with auditors and managing internal audit processes.
5. Handling VAT, tax matters, and HMRC submissions accurately and timely.
1. Treasury Operations
2. Maintaining liquidity for operational and capital needs.
3. Managing surplus funds investments according to strategy and delegation schemes.
1. System Duties
2. Managing the financial accounting system, ensuring its functionality and integration with other systems.
3. Supporting system upgrades, backups, and security, liaising with providers and stakeholders.
4. Ensuring data integrity and that the chart of accounts meets reporting requirements.
Profile
The successful candidate should have:
* Qualified CCAB member (e.g., CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA) with relevant qualifications or equivalent experience.
* Proven experience in budgeting, financial control, analysis, and reporting.
* Experience with year-end closing, statutory reporting, and fixed asset management.
* Knowledge of treasury management, including cash, debt, and investment strategies.
Job Offer
* Salary up to £49,000, increasing to £50,000 after 6 months.
* Flexible working hours from 7:00 to 19:00.
* Two flexi leave days per month.
