The Lead Pharmacy Technician - Digital Medicines & EPMA will play a vital role in delivering and optimising digital medicines systems across the Trust. Working closely with the Principal Pharmacist, the post holder will lead on the technical development, implementation and support of EPMA and other pharmacy digital systems to improve medicines safety, efficiency and patient care.

The role involves leading digital workflows within pharmacy, supporting system builds and optimisation, developing training and governance documentation, and working collaboratively with clinical teams, IT and external suppliers. The post holder will also line manage staff within the digital pharmacy team and maintain core pharmacy technician competencies to support operational service delivery.

Main duties of the job

* Support the delivery and ongoing development of digital medicines systems, including EPMA, in line with the Trust's digital medicines strategy.
* Act as a technical subject matter expert for EPMA and pharmacy-related clinical informatics systems (e.g. Sunrise, Chemocare, WellSky, ICCA), supporting system configuration, builds, workflow design, testing and optimisation.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of governance documentation, including BCP, SOPs, QRGs, audit processes and system validations, to ensure safe and effective use of digital medicines systems.
* Work collaboratively with pharmacy staff, clinical teams, Trust Digital/IT services and external suppliers to support system performance, medicines safety and service improvement.
* Provide day-to-day supervision, support and line management for staff within the digital pharmacy team, contributing to workforce development and service delivery.
* Deliver and support training for pharmacy and clinical staff in the safe and effective use of digital medicines systems.
* Maintain core pharmacy technician competencies and provide cross-cover to support operational pharmacy services, as required.

Person Specification


Qualifications


Essential

* Recognised current Accredited Checking Technician and / or Pre and In-Process Checking (PIP-C) qualification
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent AND BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or a recognised equivalent qualification
* Registered technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Evidence of CPD and study beyond qualification


Desirable

* Formal leadership training/qualification
* Experience providing Medicines Management Services
* Formal digital/IT/EPMA training or qualification
* Validated operator in Aseptic Preparative Services


Knowledge


Essential

* Provision of ward based and dispensary based pharmacy services
* Manipulation, analysis and interpretation of data. Use of databases and the internet for retrieving medicines information
* Demonstrate an understanding of current pharmacy / NHS issues
* Contact with prescribers & nursing staff
* Negotiation & influencing of other health care professionals
* Understanding of all laws relating to the safety and security of medicines, dispensing and supply
* Developing datasets for business cases, reports and audits
* Able to plan, co-ordinate, develop and adjust own work and the work of others for all aspects of the role
* Able to develop and work effectively with a wide range of pharmacy staff experience, qualification and knowledge
* Previous experience in delivery of training/assessing staff
* Experience of supervising and training of staff
* Understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management


Desirable

* Business Planning with Project and Financial Management
* Human Resource Management
* Strategic management, such as formulating Trust wide policies that meet national targets, formulating plans & developing new services.
* Experience of developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
* Understanding of GMP and GDP to lead on Wholesaler Dealer licence governance


Experience


Essential

* Experience with Electronic Prescribing and Drug Administration systems
* Post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy, evidenced by a competency based assessment.


Desirable

* Aseptic dispensing and GMP skills
