Role: Finance Business Partner
Location: West Midlands (Hybrid)
Robert Half is partnering with a well-established organisation within the project-based professional services sector to recruit a Finance Business Partner. This is a high-impact, commercially focused role supporting senior operational leadership within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, with a reporting line into the Regional GM, the Finance Business Partner will play a critical role in providing insight, challenge and decision support to drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Management Accounting
1. Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in line with group accounting policies
2. Post and review general ledger journals
3. Monitor and report off-balance sheet commitments
4. Apply technical accounting expertise to ensure correct treatment of transactions
Business Partnering
5. Partner closely with operational leaders and project managers to support project performance
6. Coach and train stakeholders on project accounting systems and financial controls
7. Act as a trusted advisor, translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
Financial Planning & Analysis
8. Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial reports
9. Analyse KPIs including invoice lag, debtors, variances and productive hours
10. Lead monthly project reviews alongside the General Manager
11. Provide performance analysis and recommendations to improve commercial outcomes
Budgeting & Forecasting
12. Play an active role in annual budget preparation
13. Support quarterly reforecasting and long-range planning
14. Track performance against budget, producing variance analysis and corrective actions
15. Support control of overhead spend in line with agreed budgets
Cash Management
16. Maximise invoicing efficiency and oversee effective credit control
17. Identify cost drivers and opportunities for cost reduction
18. Ensure supplier set-up and payments comply with internal controls and agreed terms
Governance, Control & Compliance
19. Ensure all reporting is delivered in line with group timetables
20. Lead internal control reporting for the business unit
21. Support internal and external audits
22. Ensure compliance with group policies and procedures
Additional Responsibilities
23. Contribute to business unit administration and wider reporting (e.g. sustainability, HR, statutory data)
24. Support strategic initiatives and business improvement projects
25. Deliver ad-hoc financial analysis for new opportunities and operational changes
About You
Qualifications & Experience
26. Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
27. Minimum of 2 years' post-qualified experience in FP&A, business partnering
28. Strong experience working in a business partnering or project-based environment
29. Able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
30. Strong relationship builder with the ability to influence at all levels
31. Commercially minded with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
32. High attention to detail, quality-focused and deadline-driven
33. Strong Excel skills; PowerPoint and Word proficiency essential
34. SAP knowledge desirable
35. Confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
