Salary: £32,061 - £35,412 pro rata

This is a part time, permanent role, working 3 days per week (22 hours).

Rochdale Town Hall is one of the most significant architectural and decorative masterpieces of the Victorian era. We are seeking a conservation professional to help us preserve our extraordinary interiors for generations to come. Following a multi-million pound Heritage Lottery Fund project to restore the majority of our interiors, your job will be to pick up where the project left off; continuing the highly skilled work that has already been started, and planning for the future.

Following Rochdale Town Hall’s major recent restoration, this exciting new, permanent role will lead on the care, maintenance, conservation and restoration of all timber furniture, fixtures and surfaces at Rochdale Town Hall.

Rochdale Town Hall has a large amount of highly decorative carved wooden interiors, many of which date back to 1871 when the town hall was first opened. We also hold a large collection of historic timber, furniture and decorative items. The care, preservation, research and display of these items will fall under the remit of this role.

The post will be part of the newly created on-site Conservation Studio at Rochdale Town Hall. Working with two full-time conservation colleagues specialising in Stained Glass and Decorative Surfaces, this role has the opportunity to develop a conservation hub in the heart of the Rochdale.

All three conservation roles will be responsible for delivering on-site workshops and courses to members of the public, increasing our public reach.

The post-holder will offer their expertise and skills to other venues, organisations and individuals, in this way contributing to the overall business plan of Rochdale Town Hall.

The post holder shall, on occasion, be required to work outside of ‘normal’ hours as the needs of mobilising and managing the premises requires. Occasional work at other site may also be required.
