Job Description - Electrical Contracts / Commercial Manager

Location: West Midlands, East Midlands & Central Region
Job Type: Permanent
Benefits: Company vehicle or allowance, phone allowance or company phone, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, pension following probation period.

Overview

An experienced and motivated Electrical Contracts / Commercial Manager is required to oversee maintenance and internal refurbishment projects, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. The role requires strong technical electrical knowledge alongside commercial awareness and the ability to manage site operations effectively.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining property condition and ensuring buildings remain safe and operational. This includes managing electrical systems, plant, safety systems and equipment, responding to faults quickly, and ensuring cost-effective maintenance solutions while maintaining a high standard of quality and customer satisfaction.

The role demands strong planning, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team while responding quickly to unforeseen site issues.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Responsibilities

Maintain accurate records and work closely with site teams to ensure effective control of work packages.

Manage site activities while maintaining agreed financial targets.

Monitor and control resources, materials and stock to ensure cost efficiency.

Identify and implement cost and value improvement initiatives that benefit both projects and the wider business.

Management Responsibilities

Ensure effective communication between all stakeholders involved in the project.

Ensure all works comply with statutory regulations, industry standards and internal quality procedures.

Identify and resolve site issues quickly and effectively.

Detect and rectify defective works within agreed contract timescales.

Manage owned and hired plant and equipment effectively.

Work closely with management teams to ensure smooth project delivery.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across projects and operations.

Promote a strong customer service approach across all interactions.

Electrical & Operational Responsibilities

Manage repairs and reactive maintenance activities across sites.

Understand and maintain electrical distribution systems and installations.

Carry out safe repairs in line with legal requirements, including replacement of damaged sockets, lighting, plugs and fuses.

Provide immediate response to electrical faults and system issues.

Prevent major damage and reduce reactive maintenance by implementing effective preventative solutions.

Support estimating of minor works up to approximately £25,000 based on schedule of rates or labour and materials where required.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance.

Take ownership of all health, safety and environmental responsibilities related to projects.

Ensure employees and subcontractors comply with site safety procedures.

Conduct dynamic risk assessments for site activities.

Ensure compliance with all statutory health, safety and environmental regulations.

Promote safe working practices across all projects.

Training and Development

Participate in the organisation's performance review process.

Attend required training and development programmes.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical, managerial, legislative and industry developments.

Qualifications and Experience

Up-to-date electrical qualifications.

Proven experience delivering maintenance or refurbishment projects.

Experience in managing electrical installations and distribution systems.

Understanding of repairs and reactive maintenance management.

Experience estimating minor works projects (up to £25k) is desirable.

Knowledge of SFG systems would be advantageous.

Experience with Fire and Security systems, including BAFE, would be beneficial.

Strong communication and client-facing skills.

Demonstrated ability to deliver high levels of productivity and quality
