Clinical Nurse Specialist – Upper GI Cancer Pathway

We are recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Faster Diagnosis team and provide outstanding care for patients with suspected upper gastrointestinal cancer.
Main duties
* Provide clinical support, nursing care and leadership for patients referred on the suspected cancer pathway for upper GI cancer.
* Take patients off the cancer pathway and communicate outcomes with them and primary care providers.
* Collaborate with primary and secondary care clinical and operational teams to ensure referred patients receive a high‑quality, safe, effective and timely diagnostic pathway.
* See new referrals into the pathway in a clinic setting and make clinical decisions on next steps; prior experience of nurse‑led clinics including physical examinations is desirable.
* Support compliance with the 28‑day and 62‑day Cancer Wait Time standards, working autonomously and in collaboration with colleagues, proactively identifying potential and actual risks for non‑compliance, and initiating mitigating actions or escalating as appropriate.
Qualifications / Training
* Registered Nurse educated to degree level or willingness to undertake degree education.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Teaching qualification or willingness to undertake.
* Advanced communication skills or counselling qualification or willingness to undertake.
* Advanced clinical assessment competence.
* Research module Master’s degree.
Previous Experience

* Understanding of evidence‑based practice.
* Experience of clinical governance.
* Understanding of patient pathways and their complexities, and how to support patients through these.
* Experience of nurse‑led clinic.

* Understanding of colorectal cancer pathways.
* Understanding of colorectal cancer pathology.
* Understanding of BCSG guidelines on polyp management.
