WHAT TO EXPECT
The Multi-Disciplinary Design Director, Design Hub, is a senior creative leadership role within the newly created Design Hub, responsible for defining and delivering the total brand experience, including the brand world for two distinct JLR brands. This position leads the design strategy and execution of the total brand experience from visual identity, art direction, spatial and retail design, industrial design, UX/UI (on and off-board), and shared responsibility for materiality, ensuring each brand is uniquely expressed and consistently experienced across all customer touchpoints.
THE ROLE
This role is central to shaping how each brand is perceived, creating a cohesive and emotionally resonant journey that extends beyond vehicles to include digital interfaces, in-vehicle interactions, branded accessories, environments, and physical products.
Based in the UK, the Director will collaborate closely with JLR Brand MDs, working flexibly across two business models, maintaining clear brand differentiation. The role involves partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure creative excellence, brand integrity, and market relevance.
The Director will lead the UK-based Brand Design team within the Design Hub, working with the Vehicle Design Director and Realisation Director to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and boldness, providing clear creative direction.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Inception and Governance
* Develop a cohesive brand strategy in collaboration with Brand MDs, defining each brand's DNA.
* Create and maintain the brand world for each brand, translating strategy into tangible brand books for deployment across touchpoints and markets.
* Work with Brand MDs and licensees to localise global strategies without compromising core brand values.
* Ensure target customer segmentation and vehicle positioning are distinct from existing portfolios.
* Influence brand attributes with Product Strategy teams to ensure alignment and differentiation.
* Monitor brand design execution to ensure adherence to brand guidelines.
* Manage creative development and governance across all experience touchpoints, maintaining consistency and differentiation.
* Adapt creative strategies to different markets while preserving brand integrity.
* Translate brand identity into customer journeys, including vehicle interactions, spatial environments, digital interfaces, and lifestyle extensions.
Creative Leadership
* Provide creative direction for multidisciplinary design teams.
* Own visual identity and art direction, including symbols, typography, visual language, and tone of voice.
* Define UX/UI strategies for digital experiences, ensuring consistency across platforms.
* Guide spatial design for branded environments, retail spaces, and exhibitions.
* Oversee industrial design for branded objects, accessories, and vehicle additions.
* Direct materiality strategies to manifest brand values.
Strategic Collaboration & Governance
* Align vehicle design with the broader brand experience in collaboration with Vehicle Design Director.
* Work with Realisation Director to ensure strategic delivery of brand experience visions.
* Collaborate with licensees to co-develop and deliver design visions.
* Engage with internal stakeholders to balance business goals with creative ambitions.
* Provide strategic updates to senior leadership and present to board-level stakeholders.
Technical and Creative Realisation
* Guide operational teams to ensure design intent is preserved and delivered.
* Balance vision with practical considerations like cost and delivery timelines.
Team Leadership & Innovation
* Lead and inspire a high-performing multidisciplinary team.
* Foster a culture of innovation, quality, and customer focus.
* Champion emerging trends and technologies to keep the brand experience competitive.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
* Extensive experience leading brand or experience design, preferably in automotive, mobility, lifestyle, or premium consumer goods sectors.
* Proven ability to develop multi-dimensional brand worlds across physical, digital, and spatial domains.
* Strong leadership in visual identity, UX/UI, materiality, spatial, and industrial design.
* Experience with international or licensed brand structures.
* Deep understanding of holistic customer experience design with sharp business acumen.
* Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at executive levels.
* Ability to balance creative vision with operational and commercial constraints.
* Inspirational, collaborative, and resilient leadership qualities.
* High emotional intelligence to influence and inspire at all levels.
