GMP Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a well-established and reputable engineering and manufacturing organisation. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for an Estimator to join their Commercial team on a full-time, permanent basis.
This position offers a salary of £30,000 per annum and standard working hours of 7:30am–4:00pm or 8:30am–5:00pm Monday to Thursday, with an early finish on Fridays. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served apprentice or engineering graduate, ideally with machining and/or forging experience, to develop their career within a structured, supportive, and forward-thinking engineering environment.
Reporting directly to the Commercial Office Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the company’s sales strategy, ensuring quality, delivery, and cost performance targets are achieved. The role offers exposure across estimating, planning, customer liaison, and project support, with clear opportunities for progression and professional development.
Estimator – Main Responsibilities:
* Support the delivery of the company’s sales plan in line with quality, delivery, and cost performance criteria.
* Deliver departmental KPIs and support continuous improvement to ensure repeatability and profitability of supplied products.
* Maintain, develop, and encourage regular contact with existing and prospective customers.
* Consult with customers to secure orders and provide accurate feedback on pricing and delivery.
* Work closely with the Business Development and Marketing teams to support commercial activities.
* Capture and input customer feedback into the CRM system or equivalent platforms.
* Prepare and submit timely and accurate estimates and quotations.
* Liaise with subcontractors to obtain external pricing and lead times.
* Create purchase orders for externally subcontracted work.
* Perform contract reviews against customer purchase orders and terms.
* Support project management of contracts, working closely with production departments.
* Review and implement routing change requests, including lessons learned activities.
* Support the production of routing packs to enable manufacturing to commence.
* Produce manufacturing drawings and support route investigations.
* Investigate variances against standard manufacturing routes.
* Work collaboratively with manufacturing and support departments to resolve issues as they arise.
* Update and maintain estimating databases, order systems, and commercial records.
* Attend meetings and deputise as required.
* Support and manage projects on behalf of the business.
* Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
Estimator - Required Skills and Experience:
* Time-served apprenticeship or engineering-related degree.
* Previous experience within machining and/or forging environments is highly desirable.
* Strong commercial awareness with the ability to interpret technical and manufacturing data.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
* Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
