Title: Tube-Bending Technician
Reports To: Lead Workshop Technician
Purpose of Role: The Tube-Bending Technician's main responsibilities are:
1. Undertake all bending work & associated tasks to create ANMS products.
2. Work collaboratively with Account Managers & Engineers.
3. Fully manage the pipe-bending area.
Workshop Base: Parkside Business Park, Woodley, Berkshire, RG5 4JB
Specific Responsibilities
* Bending Titanium, Aluminium & Stainless-Steel pipe stock using semi-CNC bending machine:
➢ Cutting & preparing tube-stock.
➢ Setting the machine up using the associated software, then bending tubes using manual power.
➢ Accurately measuring bent pipes using CMM to ensure conformity.
➢ Accurately trimming & preparing ends to suit machined fittings.
➢ Assembling prepared bent tubes within accurate jigs ready for TIG welding.
• Bending Stainless Steel hose-fittings using hand-bending machine:
➢ Using older equipment where operator skill & patience is required.
➢ Accurately measuring resultant bends using Inspection Office equipment.
* Working collaboratively with the Account Managers & Engineers:
➢ Giving prompt manufacturability feedback on proposed designs.
➢ Ensuring your work fulfils customer & internal requirements.
➢ Specifying new tooling in response to new customer requirements.
➢ Undertaking R&D investigative trials towards broadening our capabilities.
* Managing Tube-Bending Area & Role – Take full ownership, gain skill/experience of all the tasks involved, recommend & implement any improvements, keep area tidy.
* Managing Tube-Bending Tooling – Monitor condition & request replacements, monitor effectiveness & (if needed) recommend improvements, efficient & tidy storage.
* Managing Tube -Stock – Put away new stock deliveries, sort & store stock appropriately (slow & fast moving, current & new batches, etc..), allocate batch nos. to production jobs to aid traceability.
* Gain understanding & appreciation of all other workshop processes also.
* Working within the other workshop areas as and when deemed necessary. Having a positive attitude to undertaking other workshop activities when needed is important.
* Ensuring all activities are carried out in line with Company QA Procedures.
Training
* Whilst transferable skills & experience are requirements for this role, full training on all aspects will be given.
* Further, once fully trained in this role, there is a requirement to build experience & become proficient in other workshop roles also. This gives the opportunity to carry out a variety of workshop tasks, plus allows greatest flexibility for the company. Full training will be given.
Overtime
Due to the distinctly seasonal nature of motorsport design & production requirements, there are corresponding periods of very high workload during the year. For the workshop, the current highest workload period is mid-December to mid-March, although the start/end of this period may change in the future. During this period a reasonable level of paid overtime is expected as part of the role.
Skills & Experience
* Must have engineering workshop experience involving accurate processes & assembly.
* Must be able to interrogate engineering drawings & workshop instructions.
* Must be familiar with using computers & software (however full training will be given on the specific software).
* Crucially also have the ability to solve problems, overcome irregularities where they arise in order to meet deliveries, i.e. ability & mindset to "think on your feet".
* Tube-bending experience is a distinct advantage, but not essential.
* Motorsport experience / interest is an advantage, but not essential.
