Overview
As a Telephony Infrastructure Engineer at GCHQ, you’ll play a vital part in keeping the UK Government connected when it matters most. This role is primarily office‑based with flexible arrangements, including flexitime, full‑time, part‑time, or compressed hours, and may occasionally involve overseas travel.
Responsibilities
* Ensure telephony platforms such as call gateways, enterprise media, and transcription services remain resilient, compliant, and ready for any situation.
* Engineer improvements, resolve complex cross‑domain issues, and collaborate closely with partners and suppliers.
* Support, maintain and upgrade voice and unified communications (UC) systems on a range of Cisco technologies.
* Contribute to the on‑call rota and, upon completing all relevant training, may receive additional pay.
* Work independently and as part of a team of experts, demonstrating a proactive mindset and consistent results.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in telephony infrastructure, networking, and the support and maintenance of voice and UC systems – gained through formal training, classroom learning, or practical experience.
* Familiarity with Cisco technologies – highly beneficial.
* Strong customer‑experience focus, sound judgement, and ability to assess information and deliver timely, well‑reasoned solutions.
* Good administration skills and general Windows and Linux experience.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to influence effectively, and work collaboratively with stakeholders and colleagues.
* Ability to meet the minimum pass marks for the Online Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and for motivational and technical questions, demonstrating analytical and problem‑solving skills.

* Access to internal and external development pathways, including GCHQ’s internal pathway and external industry accreditation for Cisco qualifications.
* Opportunity to progress to Infrastructure Engineering Level 2 within 12 months and beyond.

* Starting salary of £37,892 (basic £35,134 + concessionary £2,758).
