Salary: £49,387 – £56,515 per annum (pro rata).

About the Role
The professional will act as a named key worker for adult patients with gastrointestinal cancer, coordinating care across secondary, primary and tertiary services and ensuring continuity throughout the cancer journey.
* Work collaboratively with the UGI consultants, Medical Oncology Consultants and the Macmillan CNS team.
* Attend MDT meetings, weekly ward rounds and support the coordination of the treatment pathway, including information provision and holistic needs assessments.
* Provide specialist advice and support, delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care through diagnosis, treatment, follow‑up and palliative care, as inpatient, outpatient and in community settings.
* Practice autonomously, applying specialist expertise and knowledge of UGI cancer.
* Maintain accountability for own clinical practice; expand professional expertise via educational opportunities.
* Ensure specialist counselling and health promotion integrated into care programmes; liaise within MDT.
* Act as advocate for patients, respecting diverse cultural backgrounds and needs.
* Offer supportive service including signposting for counselling; empower patients to make informed decisions.
* Maintain nurse‑led clinics for patients, families and carers.
* Support health promotion and work alongside the Personalised Care and Support Facilitator for health & well‑being and cancer awareness events.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* Registered Nurse (Level 1) on the NMC Register with appropriate level for the speciality.
* BSc Nursing or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
* Post‑registration qualification in the relevant speciality or equivalent post‑qualification experience.
* Mentorship Course completed.
Knowledge (Essential)
* Ability to clinically lead and influence staff.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Sound knowledge of current issues in nursing practice.
* Demonstrated awareness of clinical governance, risk management and the escalation process.
Experience (Essential)
* Experience delivering patient advocacy and managing own caseload.
* Experience of audit, research and evidence‑based care.
* Experience facilitating change management.
* Competent in the management of UGI cancer patients.
Experience (Desirable)
* Understanding of the national agenda for the speciality.
Skills (Essential)
* Good communication skills and ability to discuss sensitive information; proven listening/counselling skills.
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care for patients and give relevant information to patients and relatives.
* Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
