Newcastle University is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused General Assistants to join our vibrant campus café network. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a friendly, fast-paced team delivering high-quality coffee and outstanding service to our students, staff, and visitors.

1. Weekday shifts – 20 hours per week, 33 weeks per year (Term Time)

Key Accountabilites
2. Prepare and serve a range of hot and cold beverages to high standards.
3. Deliver exceptional customer service in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
4. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the café area in line with food safety standards.
5. Operate tills, handle cash and card transactions accurately.
6. Support stock management, including deliveries and restocking displays.
7. Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
8. Uphold Newcastle University’s values of sustainability, diversity and community.
About you:
9. Previous experience in a customer-facing hospitality role.
10. Previous Barista experience is desirable for this role.
11. Passionate about coffee and keen to deliver a top-quality product.
12. Friendly, approachable, and a proactive team player.
13. Able to work efficiently in a busy environment with attention to detail.
14. Flexible to work shifts across weekdays and occasional weekends.
15. Food hygiene certificate (desirable, but training can be provided).
16. A Full UK Driving License is desirable for this role

21. Literate and numerate
Desirable
22. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and Manual Handling Training.
23. Barista Training
24. Knowledge of Health and Safety.
