DevOps Engineer
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £50,000 – £80,000
The Opportunity
Our client is a Newcastle-based AI and advanced technology consultancy, purpose-built to design and deliver intelligent platforms for complex Financial Services organisations. Backed by significant institutional capital and strategic expertise, the business combines deep engineering capability with cutting-edge applied AI to solve high-value, high-stakes problems.
They are building a high-performance engineering hub in the North East, focused on scalable infrastructure, data-intensive systems, and AI-enabled platforms that operate in demanding investment and trading environments. This is a consultancy model built around technical depth, not slide decks. Engineers are expected to build, automate, and deliver.
If you want to work at the intersection of AI, infrastructure, and real-world financial systems, this is that opportunity.
The Role
This is a hands-on DevOps position with real ownership. You will sit at the centre of AI-driven product delivery, ensuring platforms are secure, scalable, observable, and production-ready.
You will shape infrastructure strategy, automation standards, CI/CD architecture, and operational resilience across intelligent systems.
You are not maintaining legacy tooling. You are building the foundations that allow advanced AI solutions to run reliably in live financial environments.
What You Will Be Doing
Designing and automating infrastructure to support modern, AI-enabled software delivery.
Owning and evolving CI/CD pipelines and associated tooling.
Building monitoring, observability, and alerting frameworks for data-intensive systems.
Driving automation to improve developer velocity and platform resilience.
Working directly with software and AI engineers to embed DevOps practices into daily delivery.
Challenging tooling, processes, and architectural decisions that limit scalability or reliability.
What Makes a Strong Profile
Strong scripting capability using PowerShell or similar languages.
Development background, or strong coding ability in C#, Java, or Python.
Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or Ansible.
Practical containerisation experience using Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
Experience implementing monitoring and observability using tools such as ELK or Grafana.
CI/CD experience including platforms such as TeamCity.
Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server.
Confident administering Windows and Linux environments.
Clear, direct communicator comfortable working alongside engineers and technical stakeholders.
Financial Services exposure is beneficial, not essential.
A minimum 2.1 degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline from a Russell Group university is required.
Additional Experience That Adds Value
Atlassian stack including Bitbucket and JIRA.
Artifact management tools such as Artifactory.
Deployment tooling such as Octopus Deploy.
Static analysis platforms including SonarQube.
Enterprise scheduling tools such as Control-M.
Cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, or GCP.
Virtualisation and storage technologies such as VMware vSphere and SAN infrastructure.

Build and operate infrastructure that underpins AI systems in live financial environments.
Genuine platform ownership from day one.
Exposure to technically demanding, high-impact client work.
High-calibre peer group with strong academic and engineering standards.
Be part of a growing AI consultancy establishing a serious engineering presence in Newcastle.
This role suits a DevOps Engineer who wants to work where AI, finance, and infrastructure meet. You will operate close to delivery, close to engineering decisions, and close to impact.
If you want technical depth, accountability, and exposure to intelligent systems operating at scale, this is a serious move.
