Pastoral Mentor Empower Futures with People Sharks Recruitment People Sharks Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Mentor with Teaching Assistant experience to support a secondary school setting. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about student welfare, behaviour management, and academic support within SEN, SEMH, and Alternative Provision environments. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, senior leadership, and pastoral teams to remove barriers to learning, improve attendance and wellbeing, and support students both inside and outside the classroom. Key Responsibilities Pastoral & Behaviour Support Promote the welfare, wellbeing, and progress of students across the school. Provide 1:1 mentoring, emotional support, and behaviour interventions for disengaged or vulnerable learners. Identify barriers to learning and work with staff to implement tailored support strategies. Manage and reintegrate students temporarily removed from lessons. Lead daily Breakfast Club, offering positive routines and early-morning pastoral support. Maintain accurate records including attendance, behaviour logs, call logs, and progress notes. Liaise with parents, external agencies, and internal staff regarding student support needs. Teaching Assistant & Classroom Support Assist teachers in the planning, preparation, and delivery of lessons. Support students with SEN, SEMH, and challenging behaviour to access the curriculum. Ensure reasonable adjustments are followed to meet individual needs. Promote positive behaviour, punctuality, engagement, and high expectations. Support learning through differentiated tasks, study-skills guidance, and small-group or 1:1 intervention. Help prepare classroom resources and maintain a positive learning environment. Assist in monitoring, assessing, and recording student progress. Required Skills & Experience Experience working in a secondary school as a Pastoral Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, or similar role. Strong behaviour management and emotional-support skills. Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour, SEN, or SEMH needs. Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents. Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Confident in using ICT for record-keeping, reporting, and communication. Qualifications English & Maths Level 2 / GCSE Grade 4 (required). Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or apprenticeship (desirable). Degree or equivalent (advantageous). Safeguarding and behaviour-support training (preferred).
