Make a Difference in our Cyber Team
The Cyber function sits within the Technology & Transformation directorate and is responsible for protecting the Society’s systems, people and data from cyber threats. The team provides frontline operational security, applying robust governance, processes and standards to safeguard the organisation in an evolving threat landscape. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the department operates and assures security controls, carries out prescribed audits and continuously strengthens the Society’s security posture.
Within this function, the Cyber Analyst plays a key role in delivering day-to-day protection services. The role focuses on monitoring and responding to security threats and incidents, combining proactive surveillance of security controls with reactive investigation of attacks. Through this work, the Cyber Analyst builds and applies a broad understanding of cyber threats, risks and vulnerabilities, as well as the controls and mitigations needed to manage them effectively.
Together, the Cyber team and the Cyber Analyst role ensure that operational security is embedded across the organisation, supporting resilience, compliance and the ongoing protection of the Society’s critical assets.
Your Impact
Here’s how you’ll make a difference:
· Develop and maintenance of information security operations documentation including procedures, standards and guidelines.
· Assist in the operation of the Society’s security controls to perform cyber threat intelligence analysis and correlate actionable security events
· Liaise with the Managed Security Operations Centre (MSOC) for Incident response, incident management and intelligence sharing; escalating to the Cyber Analyst or Group Information Security Manager where required
· Assist with security authorisation requests and queries from the business
· Perform and analyse the result of rudimentary audits that are run on a daily, weekly or monthly cycle.
What You’ll Bring
1. A clear and abiding understanding of, and interest in Cyber security, Risk and IT Audit
2. The ability to learn to operate and audit security controls such as SIEM, DLP, NAC, Email Gateways, Web Proxy, Anti-virus.
3. The ability to assist with writing and developing security policies and procedures
4. Excellent written and communication skills and the aptitude to deal with people at all levels
5. The ability to learn, understand and apply the Data Protection Act and security standards, such as ISO27001
6. An understanding of risk and regulatory frameworks
7. Previous experience of working in a technical IT role such as IT Operations or Development
