Join our R&D Team as a Development Chemist on a 1‑year Fixed Term Contract. The role is based at our UK R&D Facility in Folkestone, Kent and primarily involves aerosol products, including our leading dry shampoo brand – Batiste.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and formulate aerosol and other product formats with global partners, driven by consumer insights and market trends.
* Manage and optimise the existing product portfolio.
* Initiate and develop new product ideas based on consumer research.
* Prepare laboratory and stability samples; create product demonstrations.
* Present projects and research to diverse audiences.
* Collaborate with Marketing, Technical Management, Quality Control, and Packaging teams.
* Ensure proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
* Support junior chemists and interns, and lead initiatives beyond formulation.
* Support Regulatory in product compliance projects.
Education & Experience
* Proven experience in the FMCG industry, particularly in personal care formulation and science; experience in oral care formulation is a plus.
* A university degree in sciences or a related professional qualification to degree level.
Skills & Other Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and influencing skills who can lead cross‑functional teams and build strong working relationships. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, capable of planning ahead, using initiative, and solving problems proactively. Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft software, are essential, as is the ability to present information effectively. Strong laboratory skills and a particular interest in sample making are also required. A flexible attitude towards work hours and the ability to travel within the UK and internationally are necessary.
Contract & Working Hours
The role works Monday – Friday, 39 hours per week. A flexible attitude towards work hours and the ability to travel when needed, both within the UK and internationally, will be necessary to liaise with our global teams.
