Who sets the standards, to ensure that anything that can be measured is done so with consistency and reliability? We do. Through our vital research, the National Physical Laboratory is helping support scientific and commercial innovations, international trade, environmental protection and health and wellbeing. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways, and you could too.
We are looking for a Senior Project Manager as part of NPLs ongoing internal transformation programme, supporting the implementation of new technologies and ways of working across the organisation. It will be your responsibility to proactively lead the early initiation of projects with minimal instruction. You will turn high level project proposals into defined projects, mobilising resources, and establishing the project structures required for successful delivery. You will work with stakeholders and partners, taking early action to address risks and issues and ensure the appropriate level of governance and controls are in place. Outstanding influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills are essential, as well as the ability to lead and manage a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership: lead and manage a variety of projects of varying scale and complexity with either a system, process or organisational change focus.
Team Management: Lead project teams consisting of functional and subject matter experts and technical resources. Working closely with the project sponsor, foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders, including executives, team members, and external vendors and partners. Provide regular project status updates and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Project Planning: Develop and maintain a comprehensive project plan, including timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.
Scope Management: Define and manage project scope, objectives, and deliverables. Ensure that project requirements are documented, understood, and met.
Budget Management: Monitor and control project budgets, ensuring that the implementation stays within approved financial limits.
Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and issues, develop risk mitigation plans, and proactively address challenges as they arise.
Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of project deliverables following project management governance and that they meet business requirements and industry best practices.
Change Management: Develop and implement change management strategies
We are now working in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working. We strive to offer a great work life balance - if you are looking for full time, part time or flexible options, we will try to make this work where business possible. This will be dependent on the kind of role you do and part of the business you work in.
