Principal Social Worker – Locality Mental Health Team Taf Ely
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is pleased to invite applications for a Principal Social Work position within the Taf Ely Community Mental Health Team.
The teams consist of a Social Work Team Practice & Performance Manager, Principal Social Workers, Social Workers (including AMHPs), Community Psychiatric Nurses, a Community Psychiatric Team Lead, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and an Occupational Therapist.

As a Principal Social Worker, you will be expected to assist the Team Practice and Performance Manager in supporting the team, deputising for them when needed, and carry a small complex caseload. You will be expected to take on a mentoring role where required with newly qualified practitioners, support with supervision with your team, and commit to your own development. You will also receive regular informal and formal supervision. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with colleagues in health and the third sector services, working towards recovery for and with service users. The role is challenging, and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding and commitment to a recovery-based approach to the delivery of social care services.

The Principal Social Worker will be able to develop and enhance leadership skills within this role and have the chance to influence the development of our service area. They will be supported by a strong, experienced management team both at strategic and operational levels.

We recognise that social work is professionally and personally challenging and demands considerable levels of skill, commitment, and enthusiasm. We offer a dedicated in-house Learning and Development Centre which actively supports practitioners at each level to maintain their skills and Continuous Professional Development.

The Principal Social Worker will need to work in accordance with key legislative requirements such as the Mental Health Measures Wales (2010), The Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act The candidate will also need to have an understanding of the principles of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act

You must possess a professional recognised Social Work qualification and be expected to be registered and maintain your registration as a 'Social Worker' with Social Care Wales on appointment. Additional enhanced payment will be given to candidates with the Approved Mental Health Professionals qualification and undertaking that role within the position.
