About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures engines powering various applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. IPSD is actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
Key Responsibilities
* Conform to all Health, Safety and Environmental Procedures.
* Operate and set CNC machines.
* Set CNC machine tools, including Re-tip and DTI checking.
* Inspect own work including 1st off inspection and visual checks.
* Use measuring equipment: micrometres and Vernier calipers.
* Back up CNC programmes.
* Train new operators.
* Collaborate with other areas to develop improvements and savings.
* Carry out operator-performed maintenance and 5S activity as required.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
* Previous experience in CNC operations and programming.
* Supporting qualifications in Machining.
* Ability to read technical drawings and develop concepts from discussion.
* Tooling development and fixture design experience.
* Assist with purchasing machine tools, tool design and fixtures.
* Assist service engineers for machines.
* Problem solving to introduce new products.
* Excellent planning and organizational skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet changing team needs.
* High standards and attention to detail; cost-effective solution development.
* Self-motivated, team player, and able to work unsupervised.
* Willingness and enthusiasm to succeed; safe working standards in line with procedures.
Desirable
* Willingness to work night shift (training on days).
Job Summary
An opportunity within Caterpillar Shrewsbury for a permanent CNC Machinist, reporting to the Machining & Salvage department Team Leaders. Duties include milling, turning, grinding, vertical and horizontal boring. Reading engineering drawings and using measuring equipment (Vernier calipers, micrometers) with emphasis on quality and tight tolerances. Role supports salvage capabilities and technology development to generate cost savings.
