The Church of Scotland is seeking a visionary, strategic, and collaborative communications leader to join as Head of Communications. This is a unique opportunity to lead and transform the communications function of one of Scotland’s most historic and influential institutions at a pivotal time of change and renewal.
As Head of Communications, you will be responsible for the Church’s national communications strategy, ensuring it reflects our mission, engages a wide and diverse audience, and strengthens our voice across Scotland and beyond. You will oversee all aspects of media relations, digital presence, internal communications, brand, and publications, leading a dedicated and experienced team to tell the Church’s story with clarity, creativity and purpose.
We’re looking for a leader who can:
· Set and deliver a clear, strategic vision for Church-wide communications;
· Engage confidently with media, public affairs, congregations, presbyteries and civic partners;
· Inspire and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary communications team;
· Translate complex or sensitive information into impactful messaging;
· Champion innovation and digital growth, while respecting tradition and faith.
You’ll bring significant senior experience in communications, media or public affairs, ideally in a large, public-facing organisation. You’ll be a gifted communicator, a trusted advisor to senior leaders, and someone with the credibility and sensitivity to lead in a values-driven, faith-based environment.
It is an essential requirement of this role that the post-holder is a committed Christian with a live Church connection which is a Genuine Occupational Requirement in terms of the Equality Act 2010.
