In this role, you’ll join the Office of National Intelligence as a senior legal officer in the agency that leads Australia’s intelligence community, helping protect Australia from rapidly evolving threats and advancing our national security and prosperity.
You’ll be part of a small team that collaborates with staff across the agency and engages with a range of stakeholders including other agencies in the intelligence community, policy departments, and oversight bodies. It’s an exciting, dynamic environment that will use and develop your legal expertise and skills to the fullest.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide in-house legal services in a small legal practice that sits at the heart of the National Intelligence Community.
We are looking for skilled, motivated lawyers with well-rounded expertise in public law and an appreciation of the national security context. Working with the Legal Services Branch, you will:
* provide legal advice on legal issues relevant to ONI, including commercial, employment, operational, and governance matters
* assist with ONI’s involvement with litigation and dispute resolution, particularly in relation to the protection of information
* engage in the legislative development process where ONI or NIC equities are involved
* develop and conduct legal training for ONI staff members
* maintain and strengthen strong working relationships with key external stakeholders, in particular, across the National Intelligence Community, PM&C, the IGIS, policy departments, and external legal advisers
* communicate effectively with staff at all levels of seniority about ONI as a trusted legal adviser

Mandatory Attributes
* a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from an Australian tertiary institution
* admittance to practice law in an Australian State or Territory and eligibility to hold a restricted practicing certificate in the ACT
