Allies and Morrison is an award-winning, ISO 19650-accredited architectural design and urban planning practice with studios in London, Cambridge, Manchester, Dublin, Jeddah and Toronto.

Our portfolio includes a wide range of projects, from masterplans and new homes to cultural, education, health, and commercial buildings—for institutional, public, and private clients.

The Role

We are seeking a talented Computational Designer to join our central Design Technology team. In this key role, you will be instrumental in enhancing the efficiency of our architectural project teams and driving technological innovation across the practice.

Reporting to the Head of Design Technology and the Automation and Tool Development Lead, you will ensure our architectural software portfolio is robustly supported and continually evolving.

Key Responsibilities

* Engage with project teams to identify opportunities for process automation and develop project-specific computational strategies.
* Support architectural teams with advanced modelling, including providing specialist input on projects with complex geometries.
* Establish and maintain practice-wide modelling standards for Rhino and other computational platforms.
* Develop new visual scripting solutions to automate tasks and maintain the practice's existing Grasshopper libraries.
* Support technology interoperability, including the integration of in-house and third-party applications like Revit, Enscape, Speckle and environmental analysis tools.
* Provide front-line software support for architectural teams and monitor model development across projects.
* Develop and maintain Rhino content and templates, including family and Grasshopper libraries.
* Create and deliver internal training materials and lead skill-development workshops on Rhino modelling, design computation and visual scripting.
* Lead and contribute to R&D initiatives exploring new tools and workflows.

Essential Skills & Experience

* A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a computational design role within an architectural practice.
* Expert-level knowledge of Rhino, particularly its application on large-scale building and masterplan projects, including project setup and template development.
* Strong proficiency in visual scripting with Grasshopper.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
* A strong desire to explore emerging technologies and a dedication to self-learning and research.

Advantageous Skills & Experience

* Familiarity with programming languages such as C# and/or Python.
* Experience with BIM tools such as Revit, including Revit-Rhino interoperability workflows.
* Experience using visualisation tools like Enscape, TwinMotion, or Unreal Engine.
* Experience working with environmental analysis packages.
