Senior Commercial Manager

An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) as a Senior Commercial Manager. This role is full-time based in Bristol.

This is role within the BDUK Fixed Wing Commercial Team, reporting to the Fixed Wing Head of Commercial. The Fixed Wing business comprises of projects focused on sustainment and support to the P-8, E-7 and C-17 aircraft with ongoing growth activities and long-term contracted programmes.

About the role:

This is a senior-level, non-line management role within the team. Principal responsibilities of the role include: -

1. reviewing, interpreting and drafting terms and conditions including those that are highly complex

2. comprehensive contract management duties – both routine and dealing with all arising programme ‘problems’ and seeking to resolve / mitigate

3. developing and reviewing statements of work

4. leading and participating in contract change and contract tasking proposal development, negotiation and award activities

5. developing and supporting cost estimates and the determination of profit or earnings objectives

6. performing and approving risk assessments to balance risks and opportunities

7. reviewing and approving proposals and other products developed by peers

8. reviewing and approving other agreements with outside parties

9. fully understand, implement and adhere to BDUK Commercial policies/procedures and ensure compliance with Corporate Policies/Procedures and all legislation, regulations and standards applicable to your contracts / proposals

10. submit offers and contractually commit the company within permitted delegated authority

11. participating in and leading internal governance, including bid/no-bid and make/buy boards, as well as establishing processes internally with the Commercial Team as well as other programmes or functions

In addition, the following are key expectations of the Senior Commercial Manager in fulfilling the role: -

12. responsibility for all commercial artefacts, tasks and obligations

13. strategic thinking and applying a portfolio-wide evaluation of topics and problems to ensure interdependencies and cross-programme impacts are appropriately managed

14. proactively anticipates risks and issues and raises awareness and help needed early

15. demonstrates high levels of quality in products and high levels of standards in application of commercial administrative duties

16. maintaining currency in programme environmental awareness

17. maintaining a value for money approach for our customers whilst understanding business goals and objectives

Preferred qualifications and experience:

26. Excellent customer relationship management

27. Leadership experience - complex projects and/or teams

28. WCC (formerly IACCM) qualification and/or experience in associated role

29. Knowledge and skilled in Defence contracting and terms & conditions – drafting, interpretation and negotiating

30. Strong understanding of Single Source Contract Regulations

31. Experience in or knowledge of bidding in competition

32. Negotiation skills

33. First-time quality

34. Fast and effective responsiveness in a multifaceted, complex environment

35. Demonstrable experience working in a matrix organisation

36. Ability to handle a diverse, fast-paced, high workload

37. Able to work under supervision and independently

38. Experience in identifying and implementing improvement initiatives

42. Working experience 7+ years within multinational global company environment and UK defence expertise are desirable

Work Authorisation: This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Security Clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance for which UK residency is required.

Location: Bristol, UK. Hyrbrid working, 3 days in office per week.

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
