1. Manage the specification, development and testing of complex numerical models, analysing a range of business data, providing detailed interpretation and making recommendations to senior management to support decision making.
2. Lead the preparation of papers and reports for senior management and Executives, including conducting analysis and preparing recommendations and providing sign off prior to circulation.
3. Lead actuarial teams delivering large scale (12 month plus duration) projects, ensuring the project meets its objectives on time and within budget.
4. Act as actuarial subject matter expert on strategic business or Group level projects to ensure specialist input is provided to business decision making.
5. Communicate effectively with a technical actuarial audience. and simplify communications of technical issues to a non-technical audience.
6. As required lead, develop, coach and mentor others, typically qualified actuaries, to maximise their contribution and ensure they are fairly rewarded.
7. Participate in external committees and groups as required in order to promote Standard Life's interests and influence the direction of any industry wide developments.
8. Continually look to enhance processes and procedures to deliver effective solutions for the business.
9. Provide technical leadership in key areas of expertise and represent business area appropriately within cross divisional projects.
10. Apply a high level of knowledge and understanding of technical software, regulation, proposition, systems and processes as relevant for role.
11. Maintaining regulatory, business & professional knowledge (including professional Actuarial Standards) in an environment of fast moving regulatory change.
12. Maintaining breadth and depth of technical understanding to meet Continuing Professional Development requirements.
13. Applying commercial understanding of the business to ensure financial, business and actuarial advice is aligned with the business needs.
14. Communicating complex concepts and recommendations to multiple stakeholders across the business both in the UK and potentially globally.
15. Regularly working to defined and tight timescales whilst maintaining professional standards.
16. Balancing business demand, issues and risks by applying sound judgement in complex scenarios, often with considerable uncertainty.
17. Likely to have line management responsibility for a team of actuaries, trainee actuaries and/or analysts, dependent on the business area.
