Marine Water Quality Officer
We have two positions to backfill: one permanent and one fixed term for six months. You’ll join the Marine team in Operations Catchment Services, applying technical expertise in marine environments, modelling, and data analysis to support evidence-based decisions. Our ambition is that by 2050, waters from catchment to coast are cleaner and thriving.
Responsibilities
* Provide timely answers to technical questions for internal stakeholders and customers.
* Review complex reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Use data to inform water quality models, including bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, escalating challenges when needed.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Use initiative to contribute to team and wider organisational objectives.
* Support incident response duties with full training and support; additional payment and flexible arrangements may apply.
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as marine science, environmental science, or engineering.
* Desirable knowledge of water quality and marine environments and professional membership progression.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings.
Skills
* Experience in data analysis and some knowledge of modelling software.
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages like Mike or Cormix.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information to non‑technical audiences.
* Teamwork skills, especially in a dispersed setting.
