Head of Client Payroll
Can be based in: Manchester / Birmingham / Bristol / Reading - Hybrid working offered
Package: £80-105K +Bonus
We are supporting a global professional services organisation on the appointment of a Head of Client Payroll within their delivery function.
This role sits within a growing payroll services team and reports into senior leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in both client delivery and supporting the continued growth of the function.
This is not a traditional payroll operations role – it’s a commercially focused, client-facing position combining delivery, client management and business growth.
Head of Client Payroll – Key Responsibilities
* Lead delivery across a portfolio of complex, multi-country client payrolls
* Act as a senior escalation point for clients – owning relationships and outcomes
* Manage and develop a distributed payroll team (UK and offshore)
* Oversee service quality, governance, risk and financial performance across accounts
* Support contract negotiations, commercials and service scope discussions
* Partner with senior stakeholders internally and externally to drive successful delivery
* Contribute to the growth of the function through client expansion, referrals and market activity
* Drive process improvement and challenge existing ways of working
Head of Client Payroll – Candidate Profile
* Strong payroll background within a client-facing, commercial environment
* Experience operating within consultancy, vendor or payroll services environments preferred
* Proven ability to manage senior client relationships and handle escalations
* Commercially aware – comfortable with revenue, margin and service delivery
* Experience leading teams, ideally across multiple locations
* Confident operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
* Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge
* Not suited to candidates from purely operational / bureau payroll backgrounds
