Overview

You will join the Yorkshire Area Enforcement Team, specialising in serious environmental crime in the waste sector and related investigations. We work with regulatory teams across the Area, other Area Enforcement Teams on cross-border investigations, and with the National Environmental Crime Unit, as well as external enforcement bodies.
Responsibilities
* Undertake specialist enforcement activity following a risk-based and intelligence-led approach, targeting illegal activities posing the greatest risk to the environment, human health and the regulatory regime.
* Provide advice and guidance on smaller-scale waste operations and prosecute complex offences involving organised criminal networks.
* Formulate investigation plans, gather evidence in line with legislative requirements, take witness statements, conduct suspect interviews, and produce case files; may appear in court to give evidence in criminal trials.
* May be involved in surveillance and assist colleagues across the Area and country, with some travel and overnight stays expected.
* Respond to reports of environmental crime and adapt communication style to confrontational situations.
* Collaborate with regulatory teams, other Area Enforcement Teams, the National Environmental Crime Unit and external enforcement bodies.
Role requirements / Qualifications
* Experience in an investigatory or regulatory role, including evidence collection, case file production and presenting evidence at court.
* Understanding of handling evidence, sensitive data and intelligence under the Government Security Classification scheme.
* Knowledge of legislation applicable to environmental regulation and experience working under Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA).
* Proven ability to manage an extensive and complex workload, work independently and with others, including partner organisations, and manage health, safety and wellbeing of yourself and others.
* Demonstrable transferable skills and personal qualities; relevant work experience is advantageous but not essential.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Yorkshire Area; role may involve unscheduled travel and some overnight stays.
* Vetting to Non-police personnel vetting level 2a abbreviated.
