Infrastructure Engineer (CCTV / Video Surveillance)
£420–£455 per day | Outside IR35
London – Hybrid (3 days onsite)
The Role
Own and run a large-scale CCTV / video surveillance platform across a hybrid estate. Full lifecycle responsibility – design, build, deploy, and support. Focus on scalability, security, and consistency across thousands of devices.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the end-to-end CCTV estate (5,000+ cameras)
* Define and drive CCTV strategy, governance, and modernisation
* Design and deliver:
* Cameras (analogue & IP)
* NVR / VMS platforms
* Storage and network infrastructure
* Standardise and automate:
* Provisioning and configuration
* Firmware upgrades
* VMS rollouts
* Implement and improve:
* Monitoring, alerting, and health checks
* Performance across storage and network layers
* Troubleshoot issues across:
* Camera → Network → VMS → Storage
* Lead root cause analysis (latency, dropped streams, recording gaps)
* Enforce security, privacy, and compliance standards
* Manage and drive performance from third-party suppliers
Required Experience
* Enterprise-scale environment (5,000+ CCTV devices)
* Strong experience with CCTV / video surveillance platforms
* Deep understanding of:
* VMS / NVR architecture
* Video storage, retention, and failover
* Strong networking knowledge:
* VLANs, PoE, bandwidth planning
* Multicast / unicast, DHCP
* Proven ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-layer issues
* Solid understanding of security and data protection in surveillance
* Experience managing CCTV or related vendors / services
* Experience with Axis, Milestone XProtect, Hanwha SSM or similar technologies
* Exposure to multiple CCTV vendors and ecosystems
* Experience integrating AI / analytics for loss prevention or security
* Windows and Linux administration (servers, patching, hardening)
* Experience improving in-store or retail technology platforms
