We’re building something powerful. Let’s build it together.
We've delivered high-performance embedded computing solutions for four decades across industries including defence, telecoms, and aerospace. We’re proud to be experts in what we do and are looking for a Thermal/Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
The Role
Reporting to the Thermal/Mechanical engineering manager, this role requires someone who has a ‘hands-on’ approach to Thermal and Mechanical engineering. Working closely with the wider engineering functions, you and your team will play a crucial role in the design process from concept to production.
What will I be delivering?
The Thermal/Mechanical team at Concurrent are responsible for delivering the cooling solution and the mechanical solution for conduction cooled/air cooled boards as well as system products. The team is also responsible for qualifying the products under harsh thermal/mechanical and environmental requirements.
Key responsibilities:
* The thermal and mechanical design of electronics to be used in harsh environments. Including systems and board level designs.
* Report progress and technical issues to the leadership and project management.
* Provide support with the Design and Test function by means of designing new jigs and fixtures for design verification and production test purposes.
* Implement and/or improve technical tools, processes, team skills/knowledge increasing team efficiency and effectiveness.
* Provide technical input, support, decision making within the team as necessary ensuring project deliverables are achieved.
* Simulation and Analysis: Perform thermal simulations and analysis to validate design modifications and ensure optimal thermal performance.
* Prototype testing: Conduct experimental testing and verification of prototypes to assess thermal and mechanical performance and compliance with design specifications.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to integrate thermal solutions into overall product designs.
* Documentation: Create detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports.
* Material Selection: Identify suitable materials and apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles in thermal design.
* Industry Standards: Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
What’s in it for me?
This is a great role for someone looking to build on their experience on-the-job and develop into a senior member of the team. You will have the opportunity to tap into a wealth of knowledge, allowing you to continuously to improve, evolve and grow!
What do I need to bring with me?
Demonstrated knowledge and experience:
Essential
* Proficient in general mechanical design principles, 3D designs, parts and assemblies (preferably SolidWorks) and document control. Proven knowledge of 2D drawing creation, geometrical tolerancing and stack analysis.
* Good grasp of material properties, metalwork manufacture and surface finishing.
* Good understanding of heat transfer principles and thermal solutions in electronic products.
* Previous experience in working with interdisciplinary project teams.
* Good communication and listening skills to work effectively as a team.
* An ability to solve potentially complex mechanical/thermal problems, with the ability to reason independently and reach achievable engineering solutions.
* Good understanding of electronics cooling.
* Experience in working to mechanical and environmental standards.
* Ability to use 3D Cad software for mechanical design (preferably SolidWorks)
* Track record of managing and mitigating risks on projects.
Desirable
* Understanding of mechanical design for high vibration environments
* Understanding of Military and Aerospace qualification testing.
* Capable of FEA frequency analysis for vibration
* Experience in developing and improving engineering processes.
* Experience in managing projects to deliver on time and to budget.
* Experience of working with suppliers and customers
What sort of people are we looking for?
* You have fearless curiosity, embracing change as the catalyst for progress and performance.
* You’re committed to the customer and delivering great service.
