Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Nursing Support Worker, Band 3 on St Non Ward which is an Older Adult Mental Health Ward in Haverfordwest.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in an acute assessment in-patient setting and will demonstrate dynamic and innovative practice for the care of older adults with complex mental health needs.

The Nursing Support Worker is a vital part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the patients' assessment and treatment pathway in several vital ways.

The successful applicant will be working under the guidance of registered nurses.

The Nursing Support Worker will be expected to engage in a variety of interventions with patients, ranging from direct nursing care, working in accordance with observation and engagement policies, monitoring physical health and supporting the assessment process to enable holistic care for the patient.

Successful applicants will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team but must be able to work flexibly to suit the needs of the service and within a shift system providing 24 hour a day cover, 365 days a year which includes nights.

Main duties of the job

* To work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients/service users experiencing mental health needs in the community/home setting or inpatient services, with support and supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional.
* Undertakes or supports personal care activities, daily living skills/tasks and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
* Supports the enhanced observation of patients who present as a high risk to themselves or others due to a mental health, cognitive or clinical condition.
* Ensures the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/client’s condition and progress.
* Ensures the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
* Contributes to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff.
* Delivers role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSW’s in Wales including maintaining physical, procedural and relational security.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

* Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
* Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
* 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
* Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
