Senior Estimator – Lead Major Projects and Drive Commercial Success

The Opportunity
As a Senior Estimator, you'll take the lead in developing detailed, strategic, and commercially sound cost estimates for complex construction, maintenance and repair projects. Working closely with project teams, senior stakeholders, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, you'll help secure profitable work while ensuring accuracy, value, and effective risk management throughout the tendering process.
What You'll Be Doing
* Leading the preparation and submission of detailed cost estimates for major and complex tenders.
* Reviewing and interpreting tender documentation, specifications, and designs to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
* Developing pricing strategies that align with business objectives, market conditions, and client expectations.
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive and dependable pricing.
* Mentoring and supporting junior estimators, promoting best practice, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
* Collaborating with Project Managers, Commercial Directors, and design teams to ensure estimates align with delivery plans and project risk profiles.
* Supporting contract negotiations and post-tender discussions to help secure successful project awards.
* Driving improvements in estimating processes, systems, and documentation to enhance consistency and efficiency.
* Presenting commercial proposals and risk assessments to senior leadership and client representatives.
About You
We're looking for a commercially focused estimating professional with the experience and expertise to lead major tenders and support business growth.
Essential
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Extensive estimating experience (typically 5+ years) within the construction industry.
* Proven success in managing major and complex tender submissions.
* Strong expertise in cost planning, value engineering, and risk analysis.
* Advanced proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
* Eligibility to work in the UK and compliance with relevant health and safety requirements.
Desirable
* Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. MRICS or MCIOB).
* Experience across a range of construction sectors, including refurbishment, repairs, maintenance, voids, and asset management.
* Knowledge of BIM, digital estimating technologies, and data analytics.
* Demonstrable success in securing profitable large-scale contracts and framework agreements.
* Understanding of public procurement processes and regulatory compliance.
