WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

To be come a Student Experience Coach in our Student Support and Wellbeing department, we need someone who is motivated, organised and a good communicator.

The successful candidate will have the chance to acquire new skills and develop their abilities in a wide range of activities.

We have a variety of students from the surrounding area, we are a welcoming and inclusive community that champions diversity and equality across our college.

Our departments collaborate to establish and uphold the inclusive HoW culture, we keep this in mind as we manage interactions with the public, fellow employees, and nearby schools.

Although this position is centred on our Redditch and Bromsgrove campuses, all applicants must be prepared to travel to our other campuses or surrounding areas as required.


WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:


To find a more detailed list of your day-to-day responsibilities, please refer to the key roles and accountabilities section on our Job Description. In summary, as someone who has knowledge and experience of working with 16-18 year olds, you will support in many aspects. To name a few:

•To advance processes that enable the college to gather the “Learner’s Voice” and to train and support students to fulfil their roles as Student Ambassadors.

1. •To organise and promote a range of health and wellbeing campaigns and resources to raise awareness of relevant issues that impact on students and signpost to support.
2. •To support the development of Social Action plans and reporting using ‘Good for me, Good for FE’ initiative, acts of kindness and ‘I will’ campaign.
3. •To further develop focus group activities for identified cohorts of learners to support equality, diversity and inclusion objectives.

4. Job Description

AIMS AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB

* To develop activities and resources to support learners to develop their character, including confidence, resilience and independence.
* To develop activities and resources to prepare learners for life in modern Britain, by equipping them to be responsible, respectful, active citizens who contribute positively to society, developing their understanding of fundamental British values and their understanding and appreciation of diversity.
* Develop enrichment activities to enhance personal development and the learner experience.
* Oversee the management of the student recreational space ‘The SUB’

In achieving the above, the post will: -

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

5. To organise the College’s Freshers’ Fair in September of each year.
6. To organise cross-college campaign weeks in relation to Staying Safe, Equality and Diversity, Health and Well-being which complements the College’s Personal Development Framework.
7. To support and organise charity events throughout the year.
8. To be a key driver in developing social action activities with learners.
9. To ensure that the budget set aside for these purposes is efficiently spent and effectively monitored.
10. To facilitate and oversee the provision of qualified guest speakers to deliver the health and wellbeing campaigns.
11. To identify the recreational, social and cultural needs of students in order to facilitate their personal development. Organise and promote a programme of activities to meet their identified needs.
12. To maintain good order and discipline among the students and to safeguard their health and safety both on the College premises and when engaged in authorised College activities elsewhere.
13. Promote good working relationships between the College and relevant external agencies.
14. Supporting the development of Student Ambassadors.
15. To develop Student Ambassador focus groups to capture the “Learner Voice” in regard to relevant subjects.

12) To organise and run the Student Conference.

16. To represent the needs of students and help meet their social and educational needs.
17. To develop and co-ordinate the FE Learner Voice Framework across the College and provide administrative support as required.
18. To support the aims of the Careers Strategy, EDI Action Plan and any other College objectives.
19. To attend and support College open events.
20. To provide support to the Clerk to the Corporation in the election of the Student Governor post.
21. Produce reports on the engagement of learner voice activities and surveys.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

22. Refer to other members of the business support teams and other appropriate agencies to assist students to remain on course, return to College, or transfer effectively to alternative provision.
23. Support members of the Information Systems and Student Experience Department in meeting the needs of students or College objectives.
24. Contribute to the review and evaluation of Student Experience systems and procedures.
25. Ensure a full working knowledge and understanding of courses and other services at the College.
26. To undertake duties as a First Aider
27. To comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act
28. To comply with the requirement of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations.To take reasonable care for the health and safety of themself and for others affected by their work in ensuring that the Health and Safety responsibilities are carried out.
29. Such other duties as are commensurate with the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Business Support Staff.

All successful applicants will undergo the following checks:

SALARY

The salary range for this post is from £24,675 to £26,821 per annum.Your starting salary will be dependent upon your qualifications and experience. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale.

HOURS OF WORK

The hours of work will be based on 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum.

ANNUAL LEAVE

The post carries 25 annual leave days, plus eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’.

After 2 years continuous service, your annual leave entitlement will increase to 30 days per annum.

Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your Directors permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.

PENSION SCHEME

The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Local Government Pension Scheme’.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All newly appointed staff have to serve a 6 month probationary period.During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security and Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation. .

REFERENCES

All candidates have to have 2 satisfactory references.

LOCATION

The successful applicant will be based at Redditch and Bromsgrove but may be required to work at other locations from time to time.

VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS

The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.

CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENT TO OBTAIN A QUALIFICATION

If you are required to obtain a qualification as a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.

MATHS AND ENGLISH

All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths.If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.

SAFEGUARDING

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training during their probationary period.

Heart of Worcestershire College adheres to the Department of Education’s guidance on ‘Keeping children safe in Education’.As part of your induction, you will be required to read and understand part 1 of this document.

TRAINING
