Overview
The Manchester City Council Building Control Service seeks a Class 2A‑F Building Inspector to support statutory obligations for building safety, resilience and compliance within the city.
Responsibilities
* Ensure buildings comply with relevant building safety legislation and council policy
* Manage inspection processes for new and existing developments, including arenas, high‑rise buildings, hospitals, and educational facilities
* Provide expert advice to developers, architects and contractors on design, construction and post‑construction matters
* Maintain accurate records and reports on all inspection activities
* Collaborate with other council departments and external agencies to support the city's safety and sustainability goals
* Participate in the out‑of‑hours standby rota and receive appropriate remuneration
Qualifications
* Registered Building Inspector Class 2A‑F with the Building Safety Regulator
* Professional membership of a building control related organisation (e.g. RICS, CABE, CIOB)
* Relevant building control knowledge and experience gained in a local authority or registered building control approver
* Full UK driving licence
* Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders
* Analytical and logical thinking to analyse information and design solutions
* Problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities under pressure
* ICT skills to support business‑ICT interfaces
* Financial awareness of council structures and value‑for‑money implications
* Commercial awareness and ability to secure value in service delivery
* People‑management skills to motivate and develop colleagues
