Responsibilities
1. Lead the delivery of complex software projects for underwater robotic systems
2. Develop and define software architectures for large-scale, integrated systems
3. Translate high-level system requirements into detailed technical specifications
4. Maintain a system-level perspective while overseeing detailed implementation
5. Act as a technical authority and primary point of contact for stakeholders and customers
6. Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
7. Plan, estimate, and manage work packages, resources, and budgets
8. Ensure adherence to software quality standards and industry best practices
9. Implement and improve development processes and methodologies
10. Mentor and support the development of junior engineers
11. Manage workload distribution across teams to ensure efficiency and balance
Required Skills & Experience
12. Minimum 7 years' experience in a senior software engineering role
13. Degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline
14. Strong understanding of software systems across embedded and application layers
15. Proven experience leading multidisciplinary software teams
16. Experience designing software architecture for complex systems
17. Solid understanding of modern software development methodologies
18. Experience with safety-critical systems and design principles
19. Ability to engage directly with customers and stakeholders
20. Strong estimation, planning, and organisational skills
21. Practical knowledge of software standards and compliance
22. Awareness of cybersecurity principles and their impact on system design
Technical Expertise
Experience with a selection of the following technologies (across Windows and Linux environments):
23. C++, Python, JavaScript
24. XML, JSON, HTML, CSS
25. Web frameworks and backend technologies (e.g. Angular, Django, Node.js, React, Apache)
26. WebSockets and real-time data systems
27. Docker and containerisation
28. Networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP)
29. SQL and database technologies
30. Debugging and diagnostic tools (e.g. Wireshark, system logs)
31. Cybersecurity principles
