Youth Support Worker – SEMH & Autism School ABC Teachers are recruiting for a Youth Support Worker to work full-time in a specialist secondary school supporting students with Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours. This Youth Support Worker role is ideal for people currently working in youth work, residential care, behaviour support, mental health services or social care who are looking to move into a school environment. As a Youth Support Worker, you will play a key role in helping students regulate emotions, manage behaviour and re-engage with education in a supportive and structured setting. This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm. The Role As a Youth Support Worker, you will: • Provide 1:1 and small group support to secondary-aged students • Work with pupils with ASC, SEMH needs and challenging behaviours • Support students with emotional regulation and behaviour management • Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies • Build strong, trusting relationships with students who may struggle in mainstream education • Support teachers in delivering structured and engaging learning activities This Youth Support Worker role is highly rewarding and best suited to individuals who are resilient, calm and confident managing behaviour. Who This Role Would Suit This Youth Support Worker role is particularly suited to people with experience in: • Youth Work • Residential Children’s Care • Behaviour Support • SEMH Settings • Mental Health Support Work • Outreach Work • Youth Offending Services • Alternative Provision or PRU settings If you have experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour, your skills will transfer extremely well into this Youth Support Worker role. Requirements To apply for the Youth Support Worker role you must: • Be available Monday – Friday (8:30am – 4:00pm) • Hold GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) • Have experience supporting young people with behavioural or emotional needs • Be confident managing challenging behaviour • Be patient, resilient and passionate about supporting young people Previous school experience is not essential — many of our strongest Youth Support Workers come from social care and youth work backgrounds.
