This is a new post for a Stroke Specialist Doctor to join us on the Isle of Wight. The right candidate will be enthusiastic and inspirational, supporting patients across the whole stroke pathway. This includes patients presenting at ED with stroke symptoms, HASU support, inpatient ward rounds, and TIA/Stroke Clinic. We work closely with our partners in Portsmouth for shared learning and MDT working, and with Southampton for patients requiring transfer for mechanical thrombectomy. The trust has maintained a high SSNAP score, excelling in thrombolysis and diagnostics. Join us as we expand our HASU and redesign our Stroke Unit to improve patient experience.

Job responsibilities
Key Duties of the Post
* Contribute to the delivery of comprehensive Hyper-acute, Acute, and Stroke Rehabilitation Services at St. Marys Hospital and Queen Alexandra Hospital.
* Manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and seek continuous improvements in patient care.
* Diagnose and treat patients with stroke and stroke mimic symptoms, including appropriate referrals.
* Manage hyper-acute stroke cases, including delivering thrombolysis per protocols.
* Conduct trans-ischaemic and outpatient clinics, and ward work as per the job plan, collaborating with colleagues.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
* Supervise junior medical and clinical staff, sharing expertise.
* Engage in audits, clinical governance, CPD, and attend relevant meetings.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve clinical care and participate in research and clinical trials.
* Provide cover for colleagues' leave and absences.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* MRCP (UK) or equivalent
* Specialist training in Stroke Medicine and Hyper Acute Stroke Care
* Knowledge of current evidence-based practices
Experience
* At least 12 years' medical experience post-qualification, with 6 years in relevant specialties (Stroke Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, General Medicine, Neurology) or equivalent experience from other grades or overseas.
* Proficient in managing acute strokes, including thrombolysis.
* Experience in postgraduate teaching and awareness of current trends in the specialty.
Leadership & Management
* Understanding of NHS and social care issues.
* Ability and willingness to work within NHS performance frameworks and targets.

This role requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975).
Salary: £96,990 to £107,155 per annum, depending on experience.
