Job Description

Are you excited by the idea of developing and delivering integrated plans across a broad range of environmental specialisms, to maximise joined‑up, data‑led improvements? The Integrated Environment Planning Team (IEP) in West Midlands Area Operations offers a fulfilling role to champion integrated working, spotting and acting on opportunities to bring multiple teams, workstreams, and data sources together to tackle complex environmental challenges such as water quality, water resources, biodiversity, land management and flood risk management. The role supports strong technical networks, driving best practice and continuous improvement.

The Team

The IEP catchment planning & Water Framework Directive (WFD) team consists of specialists in catchment planning, WFD, waste planning and data visualisation. We work closely with sister IEP teams dealing with water resources, water transfer, water quality, and across operational teams within West Midlands Area and National colleagues.

Experience / Skills Required

* Analytical, open‑minded, collaborative thinking – craft compelling, evidence‑based, action‑oriented narratives from complex information.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills – produce clear persuasive written material and visualisations and brief senior colleagues and customers.
* Strong data literacy and visualisation capabilities – extract, combine and analyse data from multiple sources, respecting data quality and integrity, and create insightful visualisations.
* Good organisational skills – plan, track and deliver to set timescales, working independently.
* Understanding of environmental planning at catchment and river basin scales and connections across planning processes such as River Basin Plans, Water Resource Management Plans, Local Plans, and Local Industrial Strategies, with a focus on enabling sustainable growth.
* Knowledge of the Water Framework Directive, water quality issues, and a catchment‑based approach is an advantage.

Additional Skills (advantageous):

* Geographic Information Systems
* Power Query
* Power BI
