We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Craftsperson (Water Hygiene) to support essential maintenance services across an NHS estate in Birmingham. The role is primarily based within an acute hospital, with additional responsibilities across retained estate and mental health facilities.
This is a critical role focused on maintaining safe and compliant water systems within a healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Carrying out planned preventive maintenance (PPM), testing, and reactive maintenance on water systems
* Performing water hygiene tasks including:
* Temperature monitoring
* TMV servicing and checks
* Shower head cleaning and disinfection
* Water hygiene flushing
* Buffer vessel blowdowns
* Conducting tap removal and installation
* Ensuring safe isolation procedures are followed
* Supporting infection-control compliance across all tasks
* Completing assessments, planning works, and ensuring safe delivery
* Maintaining accurate documentation, logbooks, and CAFM systems (e.g., Maximo)
* Interpreting technical drawings and working independently
* Responding to breakdowns and emergency situations effectively
* Working in compliance with ACoP L8, HTM04-01, and all Health & Safety regulations
* Using access equipment such as ladders, scaffolding, and MEWPs (after training)
* Receiving and responding to work instructions via PDA or radio
Requirements
* EUSR (Blue) Water Hygiene Card – Essential
* NVQ or City & Guilds Level 2 in Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, or equivalent
* Proven experience in water hygiene and maintenance within a commercial or healthcare environment
* Strong knowledge of Legionella control and water safety standards
* Legionella Awareness / TMV / Disinfection training (desirable)
* Previous NHS or healthcare experience (desirable)
* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
