Engineering Apprentice - Maintenance Team
Due to our client expanding and securing new customers, they are looking to recruit an Engineering Apprentice to join their maintenance team.
Shift: afternoons/evening
Start and Finish Times: 11:30-22:00 Mon-Thursday, with flexibility on Fridays and weekends (weekend/flexibility required)
Reports to: Engineering Manager, Engineering supervision, Works Manager
Indirect Reports: Manufacturing Director, Supervisors
Job Description:
Working closely with our qualified team of mechanical and electrical engineers, observe, learn, and understand fundamental engineering skills to develop your capabilities. Assist in maintaining manufacturing equipment used in producing high-quality ductile iron and steel castings for turbo/manifold and general engineering sectors, ensuring standards are met across two manufacturing plants.

* Keen to learn and progress, adaptable, flexible, and able to work independently
* Logical problem-solving skills and inquisitiveness
* Support and mentorship opportunities through college on a part-time basis, subject to performance
* Experience in foundry processes preferred but not essential
* Committed to safety, continuous improvement, and working in a busy environment
* Excellent communication skills and initiative
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Ensure a safe working environment for all
* Perform regular checks and maintenance on moulding boxes
* Follow written instructions and company procedures
* Work independently and complete tasks promptly
* Assist with engineering projects and problem-solving activities
* Review technical drawings and participate in training on equipment maintenance and repair
* Conduct fault diagnosis and repairs in a heavy engineering foundry environment
* Participate in risk assessments and safety checks
* Maintain tools and work areas in a clean and organized manner
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Additional Functions:
* Communicate effectively and work well within a team
* Adhere to safety protocols and PPE requirements
* Report unsafe practices or conditions
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies
* Handle waste and spillages safely
* Record accidents and near misses accurately
* Obtain permits for non-routine activities
* Collaborate with H&S advisors to enhance safety standards
* Assist with installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of equipment
* Identify projects to optimize plant performance and reduce costs
* Support development of maintenance systems and spare parts management
* Diagnose and remedy faulty equipment to maintain safety and productivity
* Follow purchasing procedures and recommend improvements
* Report equipment concerns and assist team members daily
* Manage stock levels of critical spares and liaise with suppliers
