Job Description
We are currently seeking an interim Laboratory Coordinator to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple. Join their fast-paced FMCG environment as an integral team member.
This full-time temporary role is based at our client’s scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral. It is easily accessible by train and car. The position runs for 12 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation is competitive, up to £30,000 per annum, pro-rata, depending on experience.
Role overview:
Coordinate and prepare fragrance evaluations for the HC Fragrance Team, ensuring adherence to standard and safe operating practices.
Duties include:
1. Coordination
* Work closely with fragrance experts to plan upcoming fragrance evaluations. Book washing machines, booths, lab space; prepare test cloths; wash loads; order and chase samples from project teams and perfume houses. Ensure assessors and project teams are invited and able to attend assessments.
* Maintain stock for ballast loads and monitors, ordering as needed.
* Maintain the benchmark product library, keeping it up-to-date by ordering new products and disposing of outdated ones. Register products in the database.
* Maintain the fragrance oil library, updating with new oils and disposing of old oils. Register oils into LIMS.
* Represent the fragrance team in weekly meetings with the CTI Laundry Sensory Panel Leader to ensure smooth facility operations and cost savings.
* Manage visitor bookings, lunch orders, and meeting room reservations.
1. Preparation
* Complete Job Sheets with correct wash protocols and test requirements.
* Order benchmark products and ensure test samples are on-site, logging them into the database.
2. Preparation of fabrics
* Apply best practices for quality.
* Desize monitors, lay out to dry, and label with relevant codes.
* Desize ballast fabrics, make up ballast loads, and maintain stock levels.
3. Preparation of samples
* Weigh and label jars with correct dosages and codes.
4. Water preparation
* Fill tanks with demineralized water, add salts, and titrate to achieve specific hardness.
5. Performing test washes
* Load washing machines, follow protocols accurately, and sort test monitors post-wash.
* Conduct hand washes according to procedures.
6. Preparation of cloths and recovery
* Prepare cloths for assessment, record ballast reuse, and clean jars for reuse.
7. Other responsibilities
* Track monthly project costs and report to line manager. Suggest process improvements based on experience.
Safety
* Create and maintain SOPs and Risk Assessments for verification.
* Report safety or maintenance issues.
* Dispatch samples globally with proper labeling, dispose of samples safely.
Requirements
* Awareness of safety procedures, including SOPs and risk assessments.
* Ability to work effectively in a team.
* Strong organizational skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
