Clinical Scientist in Nuclear Medicine

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Nuclear Medicine Clinical Scientist, or Clinical Scientist trainee nearing completion of training scheme, to apply for a post based at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
The Nuclear Medicine Physics service at the University Hospital of Wales is part of the Radiology, Physics, Illustration, Engineering and Research (RPIER) directorate and has close academic links with the neighbouring Cardiff University. We currently provide a busy bone densitometry, non-imaging and radionuclide therapy service. The Clinical Scientist team provide scientific support to the University Hospital Wales site and to Radiology based Nuclear Medicine rooms within Cardiff and Vale, Cwm Taf and Aneurin Bevan University Health Boards. We have also been commissioned to provide scientific support for the new Transforming Access to Medicines (TrAMS) programme at IP5, Newport.
The post-holder will provide scientific support across all bone densitometry and Nuclear Medicine services. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast developing setting, including working with various SPECT-CT systems, a new DXA scanner and gamma counter and working towards a new SIRT radionuclide therapy service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and optimise bone densitometry and nuclear medicine services in the region.
Main duties of the job
* The post is primarily concerned with the provision of nuclear medicine & bone densitometry services in the South-East Wales area with particular emphasis placed on improving the quality and efficiency of related bone densitometry & nuclear medicine procedures (including SPECT-CT, PET-CT, non-imaging and therapy).
* The post-holder will participate in the delivery of a quality assurance program for bone densitometry & nuclear medicine equipment.
* The post-holder will participate in the delivery of both therapeutic and diagnostic nuclear medicine services.
* The post-holder gives guidance on the safe handling and use of radiopharmaceuticals and provides comment and direction in the optimisation of techniques using radioactive substances.
* The post-holder must contribute to relevant research and development projects, prepare and present scientific reports as necessary.
