Your role is to ensure a safe and secure environment for both staff and patients. You will work across Acute and Community services, requiring you to collaborate with and support clinical areas affected by violence and aggression—for example, from patients who may or may not have capacity. You’ll need to respond to these challenging situations in a balanced, practical, and supportive manner.
You will be responsible for providing timely, efficient, and effective operational management, ensuring that Security and Physical Intervention Training services are responsive and delivered to the highest possible standards with a strong focus on service users.
You will assist the Security Manager in delivering security and training services across the Trust, in line with legislative requirements. While overseeing the entire security function and its effectiveness, you must ensure that high standards in patient safety are consistently maintained.
Main duties of the job
As Deputy Security Manager, you will work across our Northern Services to ensure that all statutory duties are fulfilled. You will provide specialist advice and support on security, as well as on the reduction and prevention of violence and aggression. You’ll be expected to support all staff, ensure appropriate training is delivered, assist with investigations, and liaise with the police as needed. Your role also supports the Trust Lead in implementing the requirements of the Violence Prevention Reduction Standard.
You’ll need to be capable of working autonomously and as part of the wider management team, investigating and supporting staff affected by incidents of violence and aggression. You will also be expected to continually assess new processes and methodologies to help make the workplace safer for staff, patients, and all service users.
You will support the Trust’s Operational Security Manager across a wide range of duties, including the day-to-day management and supervision of the Security Department at both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital. In their absence, you will deputise and take appropriate actions in response to any security or other untoward incidents. When required, and where your qualifications allow, you will also assume the responsibilities of the Associated Security Management Specialist.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In managing the Security team the Deputy Security Manger role covers a range of services including but not limited to
·If (or when) required, to ensure that control and restraint techniques as detailed in the approved training to fulfil the duties and responsibilities are appropriately applied.
·Use of several computerised (or any other) systems in relation to Security and Car Parking.
·Report any untoward incidents concerning members of staff to the Operational Security Manager
·Report & Log any criminal acts to the Police and the Operational Security Manager
·Provide emergency assistance to all staff as required.
·To successfully complete mandatory and annual training directives as required by the Trust to ensure personal standards are maintained.

·Monitor all security Hub functions and where necessary assume control of incidents as a control authority during incidents until such time as the incident is resolved.
·Monitor fire protection system(s) and take responsibility for the coordination of the security team & supervisors during fire alarm activations as per Standard Operating Procedures.
·Monitoring and report any faults of door access systems (G4S based software) ensuring access and security systems are working.
·Monitoring all Data downloads/ as required in line with directives of the Trust and in line with the Data Protection Act 2018, Trust Policy and Standard Operating Procedures.
·Manage the Trust Safeguarding/CCTV system in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, (GDRP) including downloading CCTV footage for evidence for police
·Monitor the Administration and production of door access cards.
·Maintain responsibility for the first line maintenance of car park ticket machines (change ticket rolls, clear coin jams and rectify minor faults etc.)

Essential criteria
1. Security related qualification
2. Conflict resolution/physical intervention training
3. Dementia awareness trained
4. Safeguarding trained
5. MCA trained
Desirable criteria
6. Educated to degree level
7. SIA License for Manned Guarding or Door Supervisor and Public Space Surveillance (CCTV)
8. Customer service / customer care trained
9. First Aid at Work qualified
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
10. Previous experience in a NHS environment dealing with security issues
11. Experience of Managing staff within a Security environment
12. Experience of delivering training to a wide range of people
13. Computer literacy
14. Experience of managing conflict, violence and aggression
15. Experience of writing policies, procedures and investigative reports
Desirable criteria
16. Awareness of NHS hospital security policy
17. Good knowledge of the hospital environment.
